Chris Sexton

I received my PhD in developmental psychology with honors in 2006 and MS in clinical social work in 2003 from Columbia University in New York City. I completed clinical internships at Safe Horizon and the Adolescent Health Center at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) and worked on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) research at ISMSS and The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. My academic training employs a resilience framework to understand what helps individuals thrive under conditions of stress, including achievement pressure, interpersonal and family problems, and other mental and physical health challenges. I have been practicing psychotherapy for over a decade. I have completed specialty training in a range of evidence-based modalities, including CBT with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP); Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Trauma Focused treatments, including Trauma focused CBT (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT); and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), including PCIT for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM).
