Counseling is a process to help clients and systems to change. With counseling, clients are helped to:
Express themselves in a safe, supportive, non-judgemental setting
Identify, sort-out, and clarify their problems/issues
Identify negative cognitive behavioral patterns and learn to replace them with positive thoughts, which lead to positive feelings and behaviors.
Identify and achieve goals, while managing expectations.
Explore alternatives and options for solution based experiences.
The goals of counseling are to:
Facilitate human development and adjustment
Prevent, diagnose, and treat mental, emotional or behavioral disorders and associated distress in order to establish goals and objectives.
Implement and evaluate assessment plans using counseling interventions.
