High Shoals Fire Dept
High Shoals Fire and Rescue became incorporated in 1960 in a rural community in High Shoals, North Carolina. From the time the doors officially opened until 1991, we collected funds for the department by going door to door. April 9, 1991 we went to a tax district where Gaston County collected taxes from the citizens to fund the department. Our district included High Shoals Elementary which closed down in 1998, High Shoals Textile Mill which burned down in 2005, and numerous churches. We covered Gaston and Lincoln County for years. Now we’re responsible for 16 square miles, 52 road miles and have a population of less than 10,000 within Gaston County. Our district consist mostly of old mill houses. In 2015, We changed our name from High Shoals Fire and Rescue to North Gaston Volunteer Fire and Rescue. North Gaston Volunteer Fire and Rescue was and remains to be staffed completely by volunteers.
