Freay Funeral Home

The village of Mayville and surrounding communities have been served by this funeral home since 1885. At one time it was known as the Hall Funeral Home, then as Hall and Hemstreet Funeral Home, and then as the Hemstreet Funeral Home. In 1952 the funeral home was purchased by Harold L. Freay a local young man and his wife Frances. Harold had just come back from World War II, where he had been a POW in the German Concentration Camp known as Stalag 17B, for thirteen months. In 1956 the funeral home was moved to its present location and the name changed to the Freay Funeral Home.
On January 8, 1983 Harold retired and his son David and his wife Deborah Reffner Freay purchased the business. David, a fourth generation funeral director, who had owned the former Barber Funeral Home in Westfield from May 1, 1973 until moving back to Mayville where he was born and raised.
In January of 2017 the funeral home was purchased by Andrew D. Freay, son of David, becoming a fifth-generation funeral director and proudly serving Mayville and her surrounding communities with his wife; Elizabeth Blakely Freay. They have two daughters; Maggie and Molly Freay.
For close to 70 years the Freay family has served Mayville and its surrounding communities with dignity and respect.
