Timothy M. Cooper, MD

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with a private practice in the Flatiron District. I see adults of all ages for comprehensive mental health treatment. My approach to care is highly personalized. Each individual faces different challenges in life. I prioritize understanding what those challenges are in light of personal history, culture, values, and goals. I draw upon the latest in our scientific understanding of mental health to create a treatment plan that considers the full picture of who a person is.
I treat a range of mental health conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, ADHD, trauma, PTSD, psychosis, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, somatoform disorders, phobias, and personality disorders. I also treat difficulties in developing meaningful relationships, achieving satisfaction in work, and navigating life transitions.
I offer individualized talk therapy and medication management. I primarily provide psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, supportive psychotherapy, CBT, and DBT.
I received my medical degree from Columbia University and completed residency in adult psychiatry followed by a forensic psychiatry fellowship at NYU. I am an assistant clinical professor at NYU and a candidate in adult psychoanalysis at Columbia. I am a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
